New Moon in Capricorn

Sunday, January 18th at 12:51 (mtn)

Welcome to the first New Moon of 2026.

The beginning of the year always calls for newness. We are simply humans, marking time as it goes by and asking ourselves if we are living our truth out loud. It is always beneficial to look inwards and check in with yourself, however - I am here to remind you that it is the dead of winter, which is a time of rest and relaxation. And while we are always striving for ‘the best year yet,’ I want to slightly change the perspective: what if we had multiple good years, one after another? Years filled with love, challenges, heartbreak, laughter and everything in-between?

Aaaand it is also a New Moon: which is a potent time of new beginnings and fresh starts. It is a beautiful time of walking through open doors and taking action towards our dreams and goals. Combine this new moon energy with the freshness of the year, and use it to manifest the change you are craving: just remember to do it all with grace towards yourself. It’s about consistency, not an all-or-nothing mentality.

Earthy Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, is a cardinal sign, which means that it marks the beginning of a season. Winter has only just officially begun. Capricorn is a sign all about structure and responsibility. They are a loyal sign, one that is reflective, spiritual and intellectual. Capricorn loves type two fun - the fun that you have to work hard at.

Utilize these qualities to get real with yourself on the changes you are calling in and on the wishes you hold for the year ahead. Dream big, and then start small - changing your entire daily routine and doing too much at once can cause for a crash and burn, rather than a consistent change.

It is a beautiful time of year - and the changing of the calendar year invites in the feeling of a new chapter. Relish in it. Dream about committing to yourself in whatever way that means and how it would feel in working towards that commitment.

And remember to not push yourself too hard. Find slowness and mindfulness in your dreams and hopes for this year. Relish in the small, quiet moments of winter. Breathe in the cold air, draw a heart on the frosted window pane. Slide around on the ice and throw a snowball. Burrow yourself into your favorite blanket and a new book. And marvel at the changes you feel internally when you find those moments of presence throughout your day. Realize how small change can truly impact your dreams and hopes for the year.

ALIGNED ACTION

The start of the calendar year always calls for a new chapter. Think about what you want the theme for this new chapter to be. It can be a new chapter that will be for the rest of winter - or it could be for the full year. It could be until the full moon in two weeks, or it could be whatever timeline you wish it to be. What is the theme? What is the title of this chapter? Ask yourself these questions while you drink your first drink of the day, whether that be coffee or tea. Slowly sip, taking a minute to enjoy and truly taste your cozy drink. Contemplate on the name of your chapter. Think about the theme you are calling in for the rest of the day, and when you settle on a name and theme, write it down. Change your lock screen on your phone to reflect this. This might be by drawing a picture on your phone, finding a quote that matches this, or even creating a Pinterest vision board. Welcome yourself to this new chapter.
